Millennials (those in the 18-34 demographic) represented 70% of the 600,000 start up businesses in the UK in 2015. However, a PWC study indicated that this demographic is the least financially literate among all age groups. This represents a massive opportunity for the accounting profession, but Millennials require a completely new skill set and service offering than that traditionally offered by the accounting profession. To take up on this opportunity, or even just remain relevant, the accounting profession will have to go through some uncomfortable change.
